Spotify has been in the news a lot recently, and this week they are back thanks to big changes to audiobook distribution platform Findaway Voices.

ALLi News Editor Dan Holloway
Findaway Voices is, of course, the leading audiobook distribution platform. For many years now, it has allowed indies to sit alongside others pushing their audiobooks out to a wide range of sales and subscription platforms, including the premier library catalog OverDrive.
In October of 2023, Findaway Voices became Findaway Voices by Spotify as the audio platform ramped up its steps to move into the audiobook space.
Spotify Shifts Focus to Direct Distribution
Since then, things have evolved considerably. Spotify has partnered with AI-generated narration platform ElevenLabs, for example. And of course, it has been rapidly developing Spotify for Authors, a direct upload-to-Spotify platform along with specialist tools for authors. And as I have reported several times in the past few months, the firm has really been pushing this platform and directly courting indie authors.
Findaway Voices to Be Replaced by INaudio
The big announcement this week is that Findaway Voices by Spotify will cease operating on August 1 this year. The company has sold its distribution rights to platforms other than Spotify to a new company called INaudio. Essentially, what is happening is that the split that’s already effectively existed is being formalized: Spotify for Authors will be the place where people upload to Spotify, and INaudio for everywhere else.
Spotify has a pretty good FAQ section with the announcement, but headlines include:
- Your login for INaudio will be the same as your existing Findaway Voices by Spotify login.
- If you already have a book on Spotify through Findaway Voices by Spotify, you can already (as of May 1) set up a Spotify for Authors account.
- The terms for books now distributed through INaudio will be the same as they were when you signed up with Findaway Voices by Spotify.
