Inspirational Indie Author Interview: Jonathan Posner Writes Tudor-Era Adventures and Built a Publishing Company to Guide New Writers
My ALLi author guest this episode is Jonathan Posner, an indie author who writes historical action-adventure set in the Tudor period. After years of self-publishing, he used what he learned to build his own imprint, which has grown into a publishing company that guides new authors through the indie process. His goal is to give writers the support he wished he had when he started.
News Summary: Remembering Porter Anderson and His Lasting Impact on Publishing
I was deeply saddened to read on Publishing Perspectives of the death of its editor in chief, Porter Anderson, and wanted to take a few moments to pay tribute. If you have spent any time on this column you will know how regularly I have turned to Porter’s insights even in the most recent weeks. But a source of fascinating and beautifully articulated information doesn’t begin to do justice to the role Porter played: in my life as a writer and reporter, and in the larger world we all inhabit as writers.

Wow! Learned a lot. I wonder if theres any difference in strategy with golden trifecta with children’s book since we’re trying to reach children but there are gatekeepers–parents, teachers etc. Who do we write the blurb for?
If the parents are the ones purchasing the book, then the blurb should be directed at them AND convey what they are hoping to find for their child. You’re onto the right idea. 🙂
What wonderful information. Thanks so much for sharing! I’m definitely going to share this on my blog!
This makes me want to go back and rework my novels! The most useful talk at this conference. Wonderful!
How are your books distributed? Print? P.O.D.? Ebooks?
Can an indie author get reviews? How could an indie author get on bestseller lists without reviews? Thanks.
My books are available in print, digital, and audio.
Yes, Indies can get reviews. One of my books has over 2K. Most people won’t think to leave a review if they liked your book. Ask them nicely when someone mentions they liked it.
You don’t need reviews to hit a list.
You don’t need to hit a list to make decent money as an Indie author. I was making 6 figures a year before I hit any lists.
Awesome sauce! This was informative and inspiration. Bookmarking it for future reference. Thank you, H.M.!
Thanks so much for this wealth of information, HM! Very practical stuff and I’ll definitely be changing some things in my books based on your advice.
