The clock is ticking down to Frankfurter Buchmesse. And that means the countdown is also underway to ALLi's annual SelfPubCon. Running on October 17–18, SelfPubCon this year tackles a single question that has been implicit in almost everything I've been reporting on this year: what is the future of self-publishing? The conference subheading is “What's Working Now and What's Next,” while the strapline gets right to the point: Two days. One question: where is indie publishing going, and how do you go with it?

The conference is available to everyone online for free and you can register here. You can also download the full schedule in both UK and Eastern Time, which handily avoids any confusion when talking about timings.
Sessions to Watch
This year's keynote is Jane Friedman, whose industry knowledge has been invaluable to me over many years, and whose The Bottom Line newsletter (and The Hot Sheet before that) is an essential part of my news gathering. Jane's session on “The Indie Author's Next Move” is not to be missed. Two other sessions that particularly catch my eye look at crowdfunding and local marketing, which is something I've always been particularly keen on and is becoming more and more possible with the rise of single-genre indie bookstores doubling down on bringing authors and superfans together.
The conference will be followed on the 19th by an Indie Author Lab for ALLi members and SelfPubCon pass holders, which can be purchased here and which give access to all previous SelfPubCon content.
For those of you also keen to follow what's going on at Frankfurt, I will of course report on the highlights. But Publishing Perspectives has a great summary of some of the key sessions, so you can tune in on social media platforms to follow as they happen.
