News Summary: London Book Fair Moves to Excel Centre; AI Copyright Lawsuits Persist

We begin the last news of January with a reminder that today is the last day to get your early bird discount for ALLi's Indie Author Lab. The event is taking place all day at Kensington Town Hall in London and is a fantastic hands-on collection of sessions to tackle the issues you face in your indie author journey with industry-leading experts, ALLi legends (and quite possibly me).

That event is being held alongside London Book Fair, which is a perfect segue into the big news, which is that in 2027 London Book Fair has a new home. It will move from the environs of Kensington and Earl's Court in the west of London to the Excel Centre in the east.

Our own Orna Ross said, “As authors take a more prominent role in new publishing, we very much welcome the London Book Fair's move to the Excel Centre in the city's vibrant East End, hub of today's tech-driven creative industries. ALLi looks forward to being part of a more open and innovative show in this purpose-built events campus and its more accessible and affordable environment.”

YouTube Creators Sue Snap

In other news, there is more AI copyright lawsuit shenanigans. YouTube creators are adding Snap to the already long list of companies they are suing for using their material to train generative AI platforms.

Which is of marginal interest to us, but became really interesting when I spotted a link the piece contained to this report from the Copyright Alliance. It's a complete and analytical record of all the AI copyright cases in the creative industries from 2025 and a look ahead to this year. And it's an incredibly valuable resource.

Industry Takes Hard Line on AI

And finally, while we're talking AI, more policy updates from major organizations. Following the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association's hard line on no AI at all for the Nebula Awards, San Diego Comic-Con has followed suit.
