Spotify Introduces Wrapped for Authors; Canada Faces Copyright Questions: Self-Publishing News with Dan Holloway

Here’s a story I missed at the end of last year but discovered while idly browsing on a Sunday afternoon through the Spotify press releases about their new Wrapped for Authors feature. As one does. And like a good steak, it is still perfectly fresh for consumption.

ALLi News Editor, Dan Holloway

The end of the year is, for anyone who even grazes the social media of their friends in the lightest way, a time when we learn what everyone we know has been listening to for the past twelve months. That information comes courtesy of their Wrapped from Spotify, which gives the lowdown on what everyone listened to most. (Unlike almost everyone I know, I don’t have Spotify, but my preferred running platform does something similar with my most frequent routes and distances, so I get the principle.)

Spotify Wrapped for Authors

For the first time, it’s not just those listening to audiobooks who can benefit from these insights. Spotify has introduced Wrapped for Authors.

The Wrapped for Authors feature offers all kinds of insights, from the location and demographics of our readers to the time of day when people are most likely to listen. For those of us who like to hone our marketing and engagement efforts to a precision level, these insights will no doubt provide the information we need to make tweaks to everything we do in 2025.

This is, of course, just one of several tools Spotify has rolled out across 2024 in an effort to make the platform the go-to place for those who create as well as those who read audiobooks.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As well as looking back over 2024, there is a lot of looking forward happening at the moment. One very specific thing I am waiting for, of course, is the outcome of the TikTok hearing on January 10, which I expect imminently.

But this past week also saw the dramatic resignation of Justin Trudeau in Canada. That has prompted speculation about what an incoming administration might do (or not do) to finally tackle the problems of Canada’s fair use exemption, which has been festering in the news for many years now. We shall see.
