There is a new way for creators to increase their income through the Spotify Partner Program, which is designed to expand the ways in which podcasters can earn on the platform. The hope on the company’s part is clearly to draw more of the best content in its ongoing attempt to corner all, er, corners of the audio market.
The Partner Program launched last Thursday in the UK, Canada, US, and Australia. It allows qualifying creators to earn money from video podcasts according to how their episodes perform. Earnings come from the fees Spotify Premium subscribers pay to get rid of adverts. A share of ad revenue from those streamers who aren’t in the Premium program will continue. Which leads to the question of what “qualifies” someone. I recommend you look at all of the Spotify information on the program, but the eligibility criteria are:
- Be hosted and uploaded through Spotify for Creators
- Have 10,000 streamed hours on Spotify in the last 30 days
- Have been streamed by 2,000 unique Spotify users in the last 30 days
- Have at least 12 episodes published
You can also still earn through podcast subscriptions on Spotify with far less strict eligibility criteria (2 episodes and 100 listeners in 60 days).
Income-Generating Opportunities
And talking of income-generating opportunities, thanks to Mark Williams for pointing out a couple of webinars that may well be of interest to the ALLi audience. Both webinars (which seem to be free to register for) look at how to use AI for marketing.
First up on January 8 comes the promise of a 90-day plan to improve the impact of your personal publishing brand with AI from Julie Trelstad, a consultant who advises StreetLib, the distribution platform many indies use. Then on January 22 comes a session from the irrepressible Thad McIlroy, alongside Venu Prasad Menon. This one looks to be a more general look at how to use AI to improve your publishing performance in 2025.
