We’re thrilled to announce that entry to the Best Book Blurb Competition is officially OPEN! Showcase your marketing skills and compete for fantastic publishing prizes, all leading up to our Publishing for Profit Self-Publishing Advice Conference (#SelfPubCon24).
In partnership with the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi), this competition gives authors the chance to create a compelling 100–200-word blurb for a new or existing book. It’s your opportunity to demonstrate your ability to captivate an audience—just like a great book blurb should!
What Makes a Great Book Blurb?
A well-crafted book blurb is a crucial tool for every author. It tells readers what genre, niche, or micro-niche your book falls into and convinces them it’s worth reading. Your task is to create a blurb that hooks potential readers, drawing them in to explore more of your book.

How to Enter
Entering is easy! Submit your blurb directly in the new Self-Publishing Advice Conference Hub in SelfPubConnect, where you can also engage with and support other authors’ entries. Whether your book is already published or still in progress, you’re eligible to participate.
We have dedicated submission spaces for fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, so pick the right category and dive in!
Whether you’re an Alliance of Independent Authors member or not, you can gain access here, just choose the relevant plan.
Prizes
The top three entries will win fantastic prizes! Two runners-up will receive a self-publishing service donated by ALLi partner members, plus a paperback copy of Creative Self-Publishing by Orna Ross.
The grand-prize winner will take home a complete “Get It Published” package of self-publishing services kindly donated by ALLi partner members—and a bundle of ALLi’s self-publishing guidebooks.
Plus, all three winners will be featured in The Indie Author magazine and on ALLi’s blog and podcast!
