One reason Spotify has been in the news a fair bit of late is that May 21 was its Investor Day. That's the time each year when they make big announcements about the year ahead, such as reported in my earlier post on the ElevenLabs deal. And it's when they look back and highlight the things they are proudest of in the previous year. And that's what I'm looking at today.

Impressive Growth Numbers
Let's start with the figure Spotify places right at the top of its list of achievements. Listening hours for audiobooks rose by 60 percent in 2025, and half of all audiobook listeners on the platform joined last year. As the audiobook offering began in 2022, that suggests (certainly Spotify want it to suggest) that this is an area where the rate of growth as well as the raw growth is on the rise.
Interestingly, one of the reasons Spotify cites for this growth is its new Page Match feature. You will recall this is the tool that lets you read books in different formats as seamlessly as possible by letting you jump straight to the point you got to in one format when you start reading in another. It's not usual to see one feature (and what seemed at first to be a pretty niche feature) ascribed such power, but this is what Spotify's blog says about the impact of Page Match:
“We've seen an uplift in listening of up to 55% over a month when readers use Page Match, helping listeners finish books twice as fast. That's a win for audiences and authors alike.”
Audiobooks+ and Family Plans
Also highlighted is the Audiobooks+ program, which now has one million subscribers. The big rollout for this year looks to be an expansion of Audiobooks+ for Family and Duo plans, which will look to get as many people in a household listening to audiobooks as possible and drive, I am sure they hope, another year of 60 percent listening growth.
