Writing from our own individual experience is as important as writing in the popular styles and tropes our genres require. This session explores how to confidently write in color, without compromising either our writing style or the expectations of our readers.
Yen is a reader and author of science fiction, and a consultant in publishing. She holds postgraduate degrees in English Literature and International Business, and a Bachelor’s degree in Commercial Music. Having enjoyed a vibrant career in music touring, education, and management, Yen started writing in 2008.
She has had various publications since then: a novel, Sun: Queens of Earth; a collection of short stories, poems and illustrations, A Suspicious Collection; and short stories and poems published in other collections. She hopes to explore further the role of fiction in understanding humanity, inspecting what it is that drives us forward in our lives. Soon, Yen will be pursuing a practice-based PhD, specialising in science fiction.

Yen is offering a free paperback copy of “A Suspicious Collection: Of stories, poetry, and drawings.” It contains stories and poems that collide the weird and the wonderful, clashing hope with despair, loyalty with betrayal, and starlight with the pulsing energy of the darkness that resides in every human heart.
She is also offering a Traditional handmade “Write Right Notebook” with grids and blank spaces, perfect for your author notes and doodles.
