Get Out of the Writing Cave and into the Convention Hall: Making Readers into Fans
Do you miss the days when authors met readers in person rather than solely via the ether? Would you like to reach readers who will become devoted fans of your work?
Independently published authors often find it difficult to find ways to meet readers in person. Chain bookstores, schools, libraries and other book events often have a “no self-published” rule. And if an author scores a book signing gig at a local independent bookstore, she may sell only a few books (or worse, none).
Setting up shop at book festivals, comic cons and genre-specific conventions can be a highly productive way for genre fiction authors to build their email lists, sell books, expand their brand and meet the readers that will become their biggest fans.
Natalie Wright has exhibited and/or spoken at over thirty public book events in the past two years and will share tips for how to make the best use of book events to gather ardent fans.
Attendees of this session will learn the ins and outs of promoting and selling books at book festivals, comic cons, and other conventions. Participants will receive website links for resources, materials and book swag for events. Attendees will leave the session with ideas for how they can market their books at festivals and conventions and tips for how to best marshal their resources for a successful event.
