How to Host an Inclusive Literary Festival
Target Audience: All Levels
Ever thought you’d like to run a local literary event?
Indie festivals are challenging the celebrity-author festival model and proving hugely popular with authors and readers. The organizer of a local village festival offers top tips on how (and why) to organize your own – and do it your way.
As well as being Commissioning Editor of ALLi’s Author Advice Center blog and one of the authors of ALLi’s guidebooks, Debbie Young is founder and director of the Hawkesbury Upton Literature Festival, a free annual celebration of books and reading which takes place in the English village that has inspired her new Sophie Sayers Village Mysteries series. The first book, Best Murder in Show, has been hailed by Katie Fforde as “a cracking example of cozy crime”. Debbie is now working on the sequel, Trick or Murder?, second in a planned sequence of seven novels running the course of a village year.
